Google’s AI Notetaker for GMeet
Exploring Google’s new feature and AI notetaker options in the market. 🚀📝
Meetings are a core part of our workdays, and keeping track of all the important details can sometimes be a challenge. That’s where AI comes in, making our lives a bit easier. Google is rolling out a new AI-powered notetaker feature for Google Meet that promises to automatically take notes for you during meetings.
Google’s AI Notetaker for Google Meet
Starting from August 13, 2024, with expected completion on August 21, 2024, Google will begin introducing the “Take notes for me” feature in Google Meet. This new tool is designed to help you stay engaged in the conversation without worrying about missing key points. The notes will be saved in the meeting owner’s Google Drive and will follow the same retention policy as the meeting recording—another handy feature that’s already available in Google Meet.
For admins, there’s an option to pre-configure this feature in the Google Admin console. This flexibility means you can test it within specific groups before rolling it out to everyone.
Availability
This feature will be available for Google Workspace customers who have one of the following add-ons:
Gemini Enterprise add-on
Gemini Education Premium add-on
AI Meetings & Messaging add-on
What’s Interesting About This?
Google Meet already offers session recording, so it’ll be interesting to see how they place this new AI note-taking feature alongside it. It could potentially streamline how we review meetings, making it easier to catch up on what was discussed without rewatching the entire recording.
Pre-existing AI Notetakers in the Market
While Google’s feature is exciting, there are other AI notetakers already making waves in the market:
Fireflies.ai: A flexible tool that works across multiple platforms like Google Meet, Zoom, and Microsoft Teams. Fireflies captures notes, transcribes meetings, and highlights action items, making it a solid option if you use different meeting platforms.
TLDV.io: My personal favorite, TLDV.io not only takes high-quality notes but also records meetings. It’s a great choice if you’re looking for something that offers freebies and records your sessions—so you get notes and a recording in one go.
Read.ai: Another tool that deserves mention is Read.ai, which enhances your meetings with features like sentiment analysis and live transcripts. It’s an add-on worth considering if you want more insights from your meetings.
Wrapping Up
AI notetakers are here to make meetings less stressful and more efficient. Whether you’re interested in Google’s new feature or are exploring existing tools like Fireflies, TLDV, or Read.ai, there are plenty of options to help you keep track of what’s important.
However, it will be interesting to see how these tools evolve in terms of multiple language support and accuracy. Personally, when I deal with my Malayali clients, I find that most AI note-takers struggle with accuracy, often missing key details. This usually forces me to rewatch the recording and manually create the minutes of the meeting myself. As AI technology continues to improve, I’m hopeful that we’ll see better support for diverse languages and dialects, making these tools even more reliable.
